Elena is a member of the Class of 2022 at Brown University studying Psychology and Literary Arts. As a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Elena has developed a passion for improving the independent school system and making school communities physically and emotionally safe for its students. After years of working with children in academic and research settings, Elena has seen first-hand the impact of childhood trauma on academic and social performance through her work with children from under-resourced communities. She is passionate about creating accessible and psychologically informed resources for students and teachers to prevent sexual misconduct and abuse in schools. As an intern for Learning Courage, Elena looks forward to gaining a deeper understanding of our education system and helping make schools free of abuse and a place for students to cultivate a love of learning.
Amy Wheeler joined Learning Courage in the fall of 2019. A survivor herself, Amy has been an independent school educator and administrator for over 30 years. She began her career as an English teacher, dorm parent and coach at Lawrence Academy and understands the full life boarding school faculty and staff lead. Since then, she has worked as an administrator in K-8 day schools, 6-12 day schools, and a 6-12 all girls boarding school and knows well the impact of sexual misconduct on students, faculty, staff and institutions and the importance of training and prevention. Her experience on a number of independent school boards also gives her insight into the larger institutional issues that arise from both historic and current sexual misconduct on independent school campuses. We welcome her expertise on our team.
